The Venue

The secret Soho location is an icon of the film industry! A list actors have crossed through its doors since it opened, and the finishing touches to many of your favourite blockbuster films and prime-time TV shows will have been done in this space. Many musicians have also recorded in the venue, including greats such as The Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, The Bee Gees and even Jimi Hendrix. The space is quirky, unconventional, DIY and artsy, and provides the perfect backdrop for a community of creators, artists and makers.

The building offers a maze-like space on multiple floors, making use of the technical facilities left by its former inhabitants. Expect to find the unexpected, browse a trader’s market in a green screen studio, watch spicy films in the 120 seat cinema, have a drink under a dangling skeleton.

The location is smack bang in the heart of Soho, so attendees will be sure to also enjoy all the energy that a Saturday night in the capital has to bring during London Fashion Week !

Floridian based latex brand Rouse Rubber recently launched a new collection of latex clothing at this years RubberBall event, holding their own fashion catwalk to showcase their incredible designs. Owners Ryan and Becky were kind enough to talk exclusively to Latex24/7 about the preparation and excitement around the show.

Taking place in Tampa, Florida this year, the annual RubberBall event weas held at The Castle club. Featuring performances from renowned acts such as RubberDoll , the event has become well known and highly respected within the community.

“We held our debut fashion show at the annual Rubberball at The Castle in Tampa, Florida on August 10th.”, the owners of Rouse Rubber told us. The opportunity to present at the event came out of the blue, “This opportunity was incredibly serendipitous. One of the organizers saw a group of us at The Castle in our catsuits and asked us if we’d be interested in organizing a fashion show with only three months’ notice.”, an achievement which was not easy to fulfil. “Being the crazy people we are, we emphatically agreed to it.”, Ryan commented.

“Our first daunting task was recruiting enough models to fill a 10 minute show. Fortunately for us, the community in Tampa is growing and we had an outpouring of support to help us.”, a sign of the growth and popularity of latex clothing over the past few years. “All of our garments are made to measure”, the pair continued, “and we don’t carry any stock of pre-constructed garments. Each design and garment is unique.” When asked about the ethos behind the catwalk show it was clear that the pair had a vision. “We knew from the onset we wanted to highlight our primary focus of catsuits and leotards. We enjoy the challenge of making the perfect fit and allowing our garments to serve as a canvas that we can adorn with our generative art.”

One of the many elements which makes Rouse Rubber unique is their precise manufacturing techniques. The brand uses mathematical modeling, intricate details, and abstract geometries in most of their designs and then work with their clients to determine how best can integrate this into their suit and tailor this to their tastes.” This level of detail and commitment has served them well with customer orders as the brand has continued to grow, however it proved to add complexities to the planning and design for the annual RubberBall event. “This process meant we had very little time to design, measure, and choreograph a fashion show in time. For this fashion show we focused on creating energetic pieces and showcasing the breadth of options within a catsuit. Combining our designs with UV reactive latex ( Supatex ) created an eye catching spectacle for the crowd”, the designers commented to us.

Now that the latex designs were decided on, the attention moved to the fashion show. “As for the choreography, rather than a classic fashion show, one of our models, Master Trinity , masterfully crafted a performance where our 10 models brought different pieces of equipment to them and Mx. Dee to use on another model. This choreography, combined with the designs, was very engaging for the audience and was emblematic of the energy of our brand, designs, and support from our local latex community.”

“Leading up to the show was many sleepless nights, a whole lot of stress, adjustments, foregoing social calls with friends and family, and very dry hands from all the construction.”, Becky commented. But on the night of the event, all the work and effort proved to be worth it. “During the event, we did a meet and great for the VIP downstairs and waiting for our chance to perform at 00:30. My partner Becky and I (Ryan) stood behind the screen on stage listening to the crowd and offering support to our models, shining their garments, and generally staying busy. We had a moment to reminisce about how we’ve been going to The Castle for years and never dreamt we’d being putting on a fashion show, or that people would like what we had to show them. It was an incredibly surreal experience and we are excited to see what more our latex journey holds for us.”
